Per-Survivor Processing (PSP)

چکیده
The principle of Per-Survivor Processing (PSP) provides a general framework for the approximation of likelihood-based data detection (search) algorithms whenever the presence of unknown quantities prevents the precise use of the classical Viterbi Algorithm (VA). The PSP concept is based on the realization that decision-directed estimation of the relevant unknown parameters should be embedded into the structure of the search algorithm itself, thus joining together the two main functions of the receiver. We argue that PSP not only offers superior and robust performance versus the classical segregated-task architectures in many challenging environments, but that it is also the natural way of approaching the decoding problem from first principles, thus making it the appropriate vehicle for integrated-task receiver design. keywords: Per-Survivor Processing, Maximum Likelihood Sequence Detection, Parameter Estimation, Viterbi Algorithm, Adaptive Processing.

متن کاملA PSP Antenna Array Receiver for Joint Angle , Multipath and Data Estimation
| A time-recursive algorithm for the joint estimation of angles of arrival (AOA), multipath channel coe cients, and digital data is developed. This algorithm, which is applicable to TDMA cellular and PCS systems, is based on the technique of Per-Survivor Processing (PSP). The PSP-based adaptive array processing algorithm uses per-survivor estimation of AOAs and channel coe cients embedded into ...
متن کاملAn adaptive RSSE-PSP receiver with a pre-filter for EDGE systems
An adaptive reduced-state sequence estimation (RSSE) receiver based on per-survivor processing (PSP) in conjunction with a local decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for the EDGE system with 8PSK modulation is proposed in this paper. A prefilter prior to the RSSE-PSP is exploited to reshape the channel impulse response (CIR) to have approximately a minimum phase property. The pre-filter settings a...
متن کاملDetection of Cpfsk Signals Using per Survivor Processing
The use of Per Survivor Processing (PSP) is considered in the detection of a Continuous Phase Frequency Shifl keying (CPFSK) signal. It is shown that PSP can enable the use of a trellis structure for the demodulation that is different from the trellis structure used to generate the CPFSK signal. This allows one to select a receive trellis structure with fewer phases, resulting in a reduced stat...

Abstract— Per-Survivor Processing (PSP) provides a general framework for the approximation of Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE) algorithms whenever the presence of unknown quantities prevents the precise use of the classical Viterbi algorithm. This principle stems from the idea that data-aided estimation of unknown parameters may be embedded into the structure of the Viterbi algorit...
